This month, AAPC caught up with Lisa MacLean, long-time member and member of AAPC’s inaugural 2017 Seattle Regional Conference Planning Committee.
AAPC: What do you love about politics?
Lisa: I love that political campaigns are a gateway for young people and newcomers of all stripes to contribute to civic life and gain the skills and experience to lead in their communities.
AAPC: What advice would you have for someone who is just starting their political consulting career?
Lisa: It’s about both WHAT and WHO you know — keep your acumen sharp and your contacts fresh.
AAPC: Why did you join AAPC?
Lisa: AAPC helps us keep an eye on what the beltway-based consultants are up to.
AAPC: What’s your favorite book or movie on politics and why?
Lisa: It isn’t on the big screen, but I’m addicted to Hamilton – An American Musical because it reminds me that even in challenging political times we can all feel lucky to be alive when history is happening.
AAPC: What’s on the horizon for Moxie Media in 2017?
Lisa: Moxie Media will help write the next chapter of the experiment-informed ballot measure playbook by again defeating efforts to roll back anti-discrimination laws that protect the rights of transgender Americans.
AAPC: What’s your biggest takeaway from the 2016 cycle?
Lisa: Diversity is a key strength of our nation, and there is much more work to do to make all levels of our government more inclusive, especially by electing more women and people of color.
Moxie Media is a woman-owned, outside-the-DC-beltway, national political direct mail firm that has won competitive elections and advocacy campaigns at every level of the ballot in more than 40 states on behalf of progressive organizations and candidates since 1999.
