Jim Margolis, a senior partner and president of GMMB, has worked for years at the intersection of politics, advertising and advocacy on behalf of candidates, foundations, government agencies and corporate clients.
In presidential politics, Jim served as a Senior Advisor to Barack Obama in his campaign for the White House, taking a lead role in the $450 million advertising effort and helping direct the campaign as a member of the core strategic team. He held the same position in the 2012 campaign and was also co-managing producer of the official four-day Presidential Inaugural.
Nationally, Jim has earned one of the best win/loss records of any political consultant in the nation. In 2010–during one of the toughest environments for Democrats in recent history–Jim led the advertising efforts and helped secure victories for Senate Leader Harry Reid (NV), Senator Barbara Boxer (CA) and Senator Ron Wyden (OR).
Senator Max Baucus (MT), Senator Kent Conrad (ND), and Senator Mark Warner (VA) are also among the statewide elected officials who count on Jim for strategic advice and media production.
Overseas, Jim has helped direct presidential and prime ministerial contests in Latin America, Africa, Central America, Europe and Asia.
Nonprofit and corporate clients represent another important dimension of Jim’s work. The Robert Woods Johnson Foundation, Cisco Systems, The Kaiser Family Foundation, VISA, The Communications Workers of America, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, AT&T, FINRA, The Corporation for National Community Service, The Discovery Channel and many state and federal agencies are among the clients for whom Jim has served as a senior advisor and consultant.
Over many years Jim has been honored with dozens of awards as well as national and international recognition for his work. Before joining GMMB, Jim served as a top appointee in both the US Senate and US House. Jim graduated from Oberlin College with majors in Government and Communications.
