Robert Blizzard is a Partner at Public Opinion Strategies, a national political and public affairs research firm described by The New York Times as “the leading Republican polling company” in the country.
Described as a “blue-chip” name in Washington by Politico, Blizzard has been recognized as one of DC’s most influential Republicans under the age of 35, and was named a “Rising Star” by Campaigns & Elections Magazine. Over the years, Blizzard has directed the research efforts for hundreds of political candidates in nearly every state, for Political Action Committees and Independent Expenditure efforts on both the federal and local levels, and for national party organizations such as the RNC, the NRCC and the NRSC.
In 2014, Blizzard polled for new Congressman John Moolenaar (MI-4) who was elected in November after winning a very competitive primary in which he was outspent by millions of dollars, and for Congressman Michael Grimm (NY-11) who won by double-digits despite being declared dead by pundits. Blizzard also polled for several victorious House incumbents, including Congressmen Andy Barr (KY-6), Lou Barletta (PA-11), Brett Guthrie (KY-2), Tim Murphy (PA-18) and Glenn Thompson (PA-5).
In addition to his candidate-direct work, Blizzard also polled and conducted focus groups for successful independent expenditure efforts on behalf of Republican U.S. Senate wins for Mitch McConnell (KY), Cory Gardner (CO), Tom Cotton (AR), Joni Ernst (IA) and Bill Cassidy (LA).
Blizzard has also been very involved in campaigns at the state and local level. Over the last two cycles, Blizzard has polled for Republican caucuses in the Ohio State Senate (maintained majority in ‘14), the Ohio State House (increased majority to record levels in ‘14), the Michigan State Senate (maintained majority in ‘14), and the Michigan State House (increased majority in ‘14). In the 2014 cycle, Blizzard polled in a half dozen target seats for the New York Senate Republican Caucus which won the outright majority. And, in Kentucky, Blizzard polled for the Senate GOP Caucus, helping increase the majority for Senate Republicans and knocking off the Senate Democratic leader in the process.
In addition to his campaign polling expertise, Blizzard has directed research for the past several years on how evolving technology trends are changing the video consumption habits of Americans for Google’s Politics and Elections Team. And, on behalf of NBC News/Esquire Magazine, Blizzard has conducted bi-partisan national research focused on the New American Center. Blizzard’s firm is also part of the bi-partisan research team that conducts the prestigious NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.
Blizzard has also conducted corporate image, messaging, and crisis management research for numerous national associations, public affairs groups, and Fortune 500 companies. And, as a professionally trained focus group moderator, Blizzard has conducted extensive qualitative research on a variety of topics and issues around the country.
A graduate of Clemson University, Blizzard lives in Arlington, Virginia with his wife Julia and their young son Carter.
