Lifetime Achievement Award
AAPC Announces 2016 Hall of Fame Inductees
San Juan, Puerto Rico (April 14, 2016) —The American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC)—America’s only network of political professionals— announced Eddie Mahe, Jr. and Hal Malchow as the 2016 inductees into the AAPC Hall of Fame. Induction into the AAPC Hall of Fame is the highest honor that working members of the profession can bestow upon a colleague.
“We are honored to recognize Eddie and Hal for their extraordinary contributions to the profession and as pioneers in the use of targeting and analytics.” said AAPC President Mark Mellman. “Their achievements serve as inspiration to us all and are evidenced in the storied careers of many other consultants whose careers they helped launch.” AAPC Vice President Tom Shepard echoed, “It was a personal honor for me to recognize Eddie Mahe for the many contributions he has made to our industry.”
Each year the AAPC selects accomplished industry professionals who have amassed a career of achievements that distinguish them amongst their peers for induction into its Hall of Fame, the highest honor that working members of the profession can bestow upon a colleague. Previous inductees include David Axelrod, James Carville, Karl Rove and Lee Atwater.
Eddie Mahe, Jr. served 3 chairs at the Republican National Committee, George Bush, Mary Louise Smith and Bill Brock and brought the committee into the modern computer age. And, through the creation of a regional field and organizational force, he gave many young professionals the expertise to become political consultants. After founding his consulting firm in the late 70’s he spent the next 4 decades bringing his strategic expertise to winning for candidates, companies and organizations facing change. He never quit believing that the Republican Party could prevail and spent many years working with Newt Gingrich and other national leaders to see Republicans take control of the House in 1984 a decade after only 18% of the population would say they were Republican in a 1974 post-Watergate survey.
Hal Malchow is the former Chairman of MSHC Partners, a firm that helped pioneer the use of statistical modeling and control group experiments in politics. His landmark work in modeling voter lists for the Democratic National Committee set fundraising records that still stand today. His clients have included the US Olympic Committee, WNET, Planned Parenthood and five Democratic presidential nominees. In 2005 he received the Sisk Award for pioneering vision that has reshaped the direct marketing industry. The two previous recipients were National Geographic and the marketing director at NIKE. His career is chronicled in The Victory Lab by Sasha Issenberg, a book that describes how scientific measurement has transformed the conduct of political campaigns.
The Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony took place during the 2016 Pollie Awards & Conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 followed by the Hall of Fame After Party. Sponsors of the Hall of Fame festivities include CoxReps and TubeMogul.
