AAPC: Why did you want to join AAPC’s Board of Directors?
Ward: I want to join the AAPC’s Board of Directors to not only learn and grow from the other talented, multifaceted members, but to also to promote, uplift, and nurture the incredibly smart, innovative, and hard-working professionals that contribute to campaigns across this country.
AAPC: Why is being part of a bipartisan organization valuable to you?
Ward: We are certainly living through hyper-partisan times, but I believe that it is more important than ever to find common ground with one another. The real problems our communities, our states, and our country face must be solved. While we all obviously have ideological differences of how to approach and solve those problems, listening to and trying to understand our friends across the aisle will only help us all become better and wiser.
AAPC: As an experienced leader in your field, what do you hope to bring to AAPC’s Board?
Ward: I hope to bring my perspective and experience from working on all aspects of a campaign from City Council to State Representative to Congress to President. I’ve learned in my experience that no matter how big or small a race is, success comes down to having strong fundamentals to build your campaign upon.
AAPC: What advice would you give to young professionals who hope to be in your position one day?
Ward: My advice to the young professionals in our field is recognize that you don’t know everything – you must learn and grow from everyone and every situation you encounter. I still learn something new every day – if you aren’t changing, evolving, and innovating you will find yourself left behind by your peers who are. When I was at the NRSC, one of our main objectives each cycle was to promote education and learning across all fields for all campaign staff. We wanted everyone to be better, smarter, and stronger after each campaign. Above all, be open, honest, and hardworking and the rest will fall into place.
AAPC: What are you most looking forward to during your time on AAPC’s Board of Directors?
Ward: I’m looking forward to meeting so many great people from across disciplines and ideologies.
AAPC: How has the AAPC helped advance your career?
Ward: I appreciate all that the AAPC has done to recognize me and my colleagues. It has been a great honor to work with such a prestigious organization that has connected me to so many people I admire.
