Key Lessons from the Webinar:
- Is texting effective? Absolutely! 95% of Americans own a mobile device, with 77% using a smartphone. Why not contact voters through their preferred method of communication? Not only are you connecting with voters in ways that are easier for them, but you are also engaging them through conversation that is not limited to the 5 minutes your volunteer or staffer might spend on a phone call, assuming they’re even able to reach them, that is. If the voter isn’t able to answer your text right away, they might respond later, creating another opportunity for engagement!
- What’s the difference between Peer-to-peer and Broadcast? Peer-to-peer (P2P) and broadcast (bulk messaging) both have their benefits. But when is the appropriate time to use each of them? P2P allows individual volunteers or staffers to have personalized conversations with your audience. However, because each text must be sent manually, it can be time-consuming and expensive, so you want to ensure you’re using it at the appropriate times. Broadcast texting allows one individual to send the same message to many individuals at once. But, there are limitations in terms of responses and true engagement. The most important aspect of texting is to determine which method works best for the message and the audience you are trying to reach.
- What can you accomplish with texting? Texting is a great way to get your message to individuals quickly across large geographical areas. Maybe you don’t have enough staffers to canvas every neighborhood within your GOTV efforts. Instead of neglecting the areas you can’t get to in person, send a text message to those voters urging them to get to their polling place. Or, you could text your audience to invite them to an event or rally near their home. Discover more creative ideas from our experts in the webinar recording!
