Hal Malchow is a leader in bringing the scientific method to politics. He was the first political consultant to regularly use statistical modeling to target voter communications and fundraising mail. He was also one of the first to use control group experiments and a founder of the Analyst Institute, an organization of progressive groups which promotes experimentation and measurement in political campaigns. For these innovations, in 2005, the Direct Marketing Association of Washington named him the Sisk Vision Award winner for pioneering vision that has shaped the American direct marketing industry. The previous two winners were the National Geographic Society and the marketing director of NIKE.
