Emily Johnson, director in APCO Worldwide’s Sacramento office, specializes in corporate reputation and public policy issues. Ms. Johnson works with corporations, trade associations, nonprofit organizations and government agencies on reputational risk, litigation, legislative, and regulatory matters. She has worked with clients in the health care, technology and education sectors, providing support in media relations, online communication, social media and grassroots advocacy. Ms. Johnson served as the social media director for the successful No on Proposition 46 campaign (California, 2014). During the campaign, she directed online strategy and content development, including a robust influencer outreach program.
Prior to joining APCO, Ms. Johnson held various positions at Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), including director of alliances, affordability and access. She managed a number of strategic outreach initiatives on chronic disease prevention, the Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit and prescription drug advertising. Previously, she worked in PhRMA’s federal policy department, where she analyzed legislation and wrote policy reports on public health-care programs, the economics of the pharmaceutical industry and intellectual property rights.
Ms. Johnson graduated with highest honors from Rutgers College in New Brunswick, N.J., receiving a Bachelor of Science in political science and the administration of justice. She attended Georgetown University’s Public Policy Institute where she earned a Master of Public Policy with a concentration in regulatory and health policy.
