Since joining NPH in early 2018, JR has been instrumental in the further development of NPH programs that seek to leverage the voice of the affordable housing industry in areas of policy and electoral campaigns. Working policy makers around the Bay Area and in Sacramento, JR has helped craft bold new strategies and implement tactics that have mobilized tens of thousands of affordable housing industry professionals, advocates and like minded Californians. In 2018, JR led NPH’s successful state and local electoral and voter engagement strategy. In 2019, JR led NPH’s groundbreaking efforts with the 3Ps coalition and campaign, and new regional initiatives for regional solutions. Prior to joining NPH, JR served as a political strategist for some of the nations most competitive congressional and gubernatorial campaigns. JR has directed winning campaign programs across the country on the municipal, state and federal levels. JR was named a “Rising Star” by Campaign and Elections Magazine in 2014 and has served as a columnist and guest contributor for multiple trade oriented journals in his career. JR served as one of two political directors for NextGen America during the 2014 campaign season, where he coordinated campaign efforts and expenditures totaling $60 million across multiple states. JR most recently served as the Senior Director of State Government Affairs for Common Sense Media, and in this capacity, led state legislative and political advocacy efforts in policy areas at the intersection of digital media and education. In multiple states, JR led a strategy to pass legislation. Motivated by the challenges we face domestically, JR enjoys finding challenging projects and building winning strategies that produce a positive policy outcome.
