Justin Knighten has strong and broad-based public affairs experience with expertise in media relations and social media strategy with a gift for framing issues and driving coverage in fast-pace arenas. Justin manages public affairs and communications campaigns for a variety of the firm’s clients on issues ranging from renewable energy, Internet and technology, health care, travel and tourism, education and biotechnology.
Justin, a founding member of Lucas Public Affairs, previously served in the Legislative Unit at the California Environmental Protection Agency – Office of Secretary Linda Adams, and in the Legislative Unit at the Department of Toxic Substances Control as part of the Green Chemistry Innovative logistical and communication teams. He also has worked in Talk Radio News Service’s Washington, D.C. bureau and for the United States Coast Guard public affairs unit in Seattle, WA.
Justin is a founding member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Shapers – Sacramento Hub, serves on the board of the Sacramento Press Club, and is the media and public affairs director for the Harvey Milk Foundation. Justin is also a 2017 Equality California (EQCA) Leadership Academy Fellow.
In 2016, Justin received the Rising Star Award from his alma mater and was recognized as one the Sacramento Business Journal’s “40 Under 40.” In June 2014, he received a LGBTQ Pride Award from the Sacramento LGBTQ Community Center for his work on important community and civil rights issues. Justin holds a BA in Public Relations and Government from California State University, Sacramento. He is an avid traveler and art enthusiast.
