AAPC: Why did you join AAPC?
Peggy: I took the advice of a very politically savvy friend who told me that AAPC was a great organization for meeting bi-partisan consultants, staying on top of the latest trends and taking a deep dive into the political arena. Having attended the LA conference in October, she was absolutely right.
AAPC: Who have you not worked with yet but would like to?
Peggy: My first foray into political consulting has been in support of progressive women at the state and federal level. This constituency will always be a major focus, but in general, my desire is to coach candidates whose values and ethics are aligned with mine, and who are passionate about enhancing their ability to communicate and lead with integrity and authenticity.
AAPC: Why is being part of a bipartisan organization valuable to you?
Peggy: Being a part of a bipartisan organization gives me exposure to different ideologies and beliefs that I don’t often experience living in a blue state bubble. While it may be difficult at times to listen to diametrically opposing viewpoints, I believe it is critical in helping to make candidates successful.
AAPC: When did you know this was the career for you?
Peggy: Before November 8th, 2016, I worked exclusively with corporate and non-profit professionals to build and enhance their leadership and communication skills. But, after the election, I felt compelled to use my expertise to help those candidates who reflect my values to properly articulate their message and inspire the public.
AAPC: How do you manage high-stress situations?
Peggy: As I tell my clients, the key to reducing stress in high-pressure situations is plenty of preparation and practice. Humor is also a great antidote, as is breathing deeply and reminding myself that like every other obstacle I have faced, “this too shall pass.”
