Natasha Korecki is a senior reporter for POLITICO and authors the Illinois Playbook. She previously worked as chief political writer at the Chicago Sun-Times, covering state, national and city politics. She wrote a reporting-based Sunday political column. Before that, she covered federal courts in Chicago during a golden age of political corruption prosecutions. Korecki covered the criminal trials of two consecutive governors – George Ryan and Rod Blagojevich. She created The Blago Blog, which drew a national following. She is the author of Only in Chicago (Agate) based on the Blagojevich probe and trials. Korecki’s work included exposing the evolving sworn testimony of then-U.S. Sen. Roland Burris, which launched criminal and ethics inquiries and won numerous state and national awards. Later, she was first to report that Jesse Jackson Jr. was under federal investigation involving financial irregularities. In 2005, she was among a team of Sun-Times reporters honored with the national SPJ award for coverage of the murders of a federal judge’s mother and husband.
