Greg graduated from the University of Maine in 1971, where he developed his love of politics as the president of his class and as senior advisor for the Student Senate President.

After graduation, Greg became a newspaper reporter in Woodbridge, New Jersey, eventually covering the State House in Trenton, where he developed a close relationship with then Representative Tom Kean. From there, Greg joined Gerald Ford’s campaign as New Jersey press secretary, and then went on to do press for Tom Kean’s first bid for Governor in 1977.
In 1978, Greg returned to Maine to work for Congressman Bill Cohen in his successful run for US Senate. Following his victory, Greg stayed on in Senator Cohen’s state office.

A year later, Greg arrived in Washington, DC, working as an Administrative Assistant for then Congresswoman Olympia Snowe’s first term in Congress. After two years in Washington, Greg was called back to New Jersey to work for newly elected New Jersey Governor Tom Kean.

Joining as Communications Director, Greg quickly rose to Chief of Staff, a position he held through Governor Kean’s re-election campaign in 1985.

Following the re-election, Greg returned to the Washington, DC area, where he entered the private sector, working for a period at Black, Manafort and Stone, before opening the Washington Office for Ailes Communication.

In 1994, Greg left Ailes Communication to open his own firm, Greg Stevens & Co, which eventually became Stevens, Reed, Curcio and Potholm: now known as SRCP Media.
In 2000, Greg directed the advertising and served as a top advisor for U.S. Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign, helping to catapult the Arizona senator into the national limelight with primary wins in New Hampshire and Michigan.

During his illustrious career, Greg produced advertising for numerous national and state leaders including: Senator George Voinovich (OH), Senator Mike DeWine (OH), Senator Susan Collins (ME), Senator Gordon Smith (OR), Senator Peter Fitzgerald (IL), Senator Mitch McConnell (KY), Governor John Rowland (CT), Governor Craig Benson (NH), Governor Bob Taft (OH), Governor George Allen (VA) and Congressman Tom Davis (VA).

In 1988, Greg produced one of the most famous and effective political ads of all time: the Dukakis ‘Tank’ ad for the George W. Bush presidential campaign.

In 1999, Greg and his family moved back to Maine where he would live happily for the rest of his life, continuing his political consulting and proudly serving as a member of the Board of Visitors for the University of Maine, his alma mater.

In 2005, Greg developed a Glioblastoma Multiform brain tumor. He fought a courageous battle against the cancer for 22 months. Greg passed away in April 2007. He is survived by his wife Judi, and his sons Clark, Brent and Luke, and his grandson Gregory.
