AAPC Members Stop Harmful Provisions in Oregon Data Bill

Oregon House Bill 3899 will no longer be moving forward as written, thanks  AAPC members’ action and advocacy.

Last month we flagged the bill’s troubling bans on the sale and use of sensitive data for targeted political outreach. The AAPC has long supported data privacy measures that safeguard both consumers and political free speech. And while well-intentioned, the bill fell short, threatening civic and political engagement in the state.

We asked our members to reach out – and they delivered. From AAPC’s formal correspondence to personal outreach from members and in-state connections, our community’s engagement helped educate legislators about the real-world consequences of HB 3899. It was the stories and personal engagement that made the difference.

This outcome is a clear win for political free speech and proof of what membership with AAPC makes possible. Thank you to our members for standing up, speaking out, and staying engaged. More challenges lie ahead–and together we can meet them.

With gratitude,

Julie
