Massachusetts: Pushing Back on “Data Minimization” The Massachusetts Senate passed S.2608, a data privacy bill that includes a strict “data minimization” requirement. While we support strong privacy protections, this bill risks creating significant barriers for political and civic groups by applying the same rules to voter outreach as it does to commercial advertising.

In response, AAPC sent a letter to the Senate Committee on Ways and Means urging them to adopt a clear exemption for political organizations, similar to the successful frameworks in Texas, Virginia, and Connecticut. The bill still has a long way to go in the House, and we will continue to advocate for this critical change.
