Michigan: Protecting Political Messaging from Overreach In Michigan, AAPC is actively working to amend SB 351, a consumer protection bill that could redefine “autodialer” to include texts and app-based messages used for fundraising, voter turnout, and surveys. As written, it would classify a huge portion of what our members do as prohibited “telephone solicitation.”
We sent a letter to the bill’s sponsor, Senator Mary Cavanagh, outlining how the bill poses a significant risk to protected political communication and requesting targeted amendments to safeguard political speech. We are currently awaiting an updated version of the bill and will keep you posted.
