Political Violence Has No Place in American Democracy
(Mclean, VA) The American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC) unequivocally condemns political violence. The recent escalation of politically motivated attacks threatens the very foundation of free speech, open debate, and peaceful participation in our political process.
The assassination of Charlie Kirk is a tragic reminder of these dangers. His death, along with the targeted attacks in Minnesota that claimed the lives of State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband and left State Senator John Hoffman and his wife wounded, underscores a disturbing trend that threatens the safety of all who engage in public life and demands a united response.
As political professionals, we know that the health of our democracy depends not only on free and fair elections but also on our shared responsibility to resolve differences peacefully. We call on all Americans—consultants, candidates, parties, and citizens alike—to recommit ourselves to the democratic values that unite us and to reject violence in all forms.
“The assassination of Charlie Kirk is a heartbreaking tragedy and a stark reminder of why we must defend democracy with words, ideas, and peaceful participation—never violence,” said Kyle Roberts, President of the AAPC. “We must stand together, across party lines, to ensure our political system remains strong, free, and safe for all.”
