Strategist and Communications Advisor
Few Democratic strategists have operated at the intersection of political consulting and presidential governance as consistently as Anita Dunn. Across more than three decades, she has shaped the communications strategy for two presidencies, built one of Washington’s most influential strategic communications firms, and mentored a generation of operatives now in the top ranks of the profession.
Dunn began her career as a White House intern under President Jimmy Carter and went on to serve two cycles as DSCC Communications Director and senior roles for Senator Bill Bradley, Senator Evan Bayh, and Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle. Hired by then-Senator Barack Obama in 2006, she served as Senior Advisor on the 2008 campaign, interim White House Communications Director in 2009, and a central voice on debate preparation and strategy in 2012. She was a driving force behind the Biden 2020 campaign and served as Senior Advisor to President Biden from 2021 to 2024. Dunn joined Squier Knapp Ochs in 1993, became a partner in 1998, and helped build what is now SKDK into one of the most prominent Democratic-aligned strategic communications operations in the country.
