Partner and Co-Founder, Public Opinion Strategies
One political reporter described him as “one of the smartest, most clear-thinking people in politics.” Another said McInturff “sees them in three-dimensions and what’s around the corner you don’t see.” Over more than 35 years and 5,000 projects, McInturff has been devoted to what he calls “combat message development,” building the strategic arguments that defend and promote client interests on the most complex policy battles of the era.
McInturff was the lead pollster for Senator John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign and, alongside Peter D. Hart, the Republican partner in the NBC News/Wall Street Journal polling series for over two decades. Health care has been a defining focus, with POS completing more than 2,200 focus groups and 1,300 surveys under his guidance. He was the architect of the research behind the “Harry and Louise” campaign that shaped the national debate over the Clinton health care plan and has served as lead pollster for over 45 successful initiative campaigns. He is a frequent guest on Meet the Press and resides with his wife in Alexandria, Virginia.
