David Axelrod once described him as “a member of the Mt. Rushmore of political polling.” That bipartisan regard is the hallmark of a 40-year career that has reached the highest levels of Republican politics while earning the trust of figures across the aisle. A Kansas City native, Newhouse has been named AAPC “Pollster of the Year” three times and twice named one of Roll Call’s “Money 20” political consultants who make a difference.
Newhouse was the lead pollster for Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential run and previously polled for Robert Dole, George W. Bush, and Jeb Bush. He has completed political research in all 50 states and eight foreign countries, helping elect dozens of U.S. House and Senate candidates as well as numerous gubernatorial and state-level candidates, and provided polling and strategic guidance for Joe Lieberman’s successful 2006 Independent Senate bid in Connecticut. He has worked extensively on swing voter constituencies, including the “Walmart Moms” demographic he helped define as critical to winning modern elections. A Duke University graduate, Newhouse was honored as a Fellow at the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics in 2022, where he co-led a seminar alongside Democratic pollster Joel Benenson.
