Alana Joyce

Executive Director

In 2011, Alana Joyce was appointed Executive Director of the American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC) where she oversees all AAPC general management, membership growth and retention, as well as annual conference functions including the Pollie Awards to recognize excellence in political consulting practices. AAPC is the largest, bi-partisan association of political and public affairs professionals in the world.

An experienced program leader and innovator, Joyce’s deep background brings over 20 years of developing and implementing strategic plans to grow non-profit organizations’ customers, revenues and influence through profitable, world class educational programs, partnerships, certification courses and research initiatives. She has held senior positions with various non-profit organizations including Global Business Travel Association (GBTA), Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE) and the Smithsonian Institution. She has additional expertise in adult and web-based learning and has been tapped to speak on these subjects at several national Conferences. She holds a BA and secondary teacher certification from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI.

Beckie Souleymane

Director, Meetings & Operations

As Director, Meetings & Operations, Beckie oversees the planning and execution of AAPC events as well as operational and administrative functions of AAPC, including developing educational programming and membership and marketing strategies that advance AAPC’s mission.

Beckie has worked in the association industry for over 12 years and brings experience in a wide array of association management including membership development, strategic planning, marketing and communications, program development, volunteer management and meeting planning. Previously, Beckie served as Program Manager for the American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators (ASOA), Account Manager for the Health Care Administrators Association (HCAA) and Executive Director for the Professional Association for Investment Communications Resources (PAICR).

Robyn Matthews

Director, Advocacy and Industry Relations

A native Oklahoman, Robyn has expansive political experience including lobbying for agriculture and financial services associations, statewide and congressional campaign management, and experience as a candidate herself. In 2018, Robyn ran the campaign for Oklahoma Attorney General where her candidate won the runoff by the closest statewide margin in Oklahoma history. In 2016, Robyn was a candidate herself and ran for state representative in the heart of Oklahoma City

In 2019, Robyn moved from Oklahoma to Washington, DC, where she worked for a state and local government relations firm before moving back into the association realm. Most recently, Robyn worked for the National Association of Home Builders as Director, Intergovernmental Affairs where she assisted state and local associations with issues affecting the membership.

Robyn holds a bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University and is pursuing a Master of Public Affairs degree from the University of Missouri. Robyn lives in Virginia with her boyfriend and two dogs, Bentley and Oscar.

Kelly joined AAPC in September, 2019 as Member Strategy and Engagement Coordinator and works to achieve the AAPC’s membership recruitment, engagement, and retention goals. She explores different promotional avenues to increase the visibility of membership engagement opportunities.

Kelly graduated from Flagler College in 2019 with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a minor in English. Born and raised in Northern Virginia, living in close proximity to Washington D.C. has made her well versed in the realm of politics. In her free time, Kelly enjoys outdoor activities with her dog, reading, and exploring different places to eat.

Susannah Cowgill

Susannah joined AAPC as the Coordinator of Programs in February 2022 and supports the development of educational programming for AAPC’s Conferences and virtual events. She works to support AAPC’s conferences by managing conference speakers and sponsorships as well as assisting with the logistics of event venues.

Susannah graduated from the University of Southern Indiana in 2021 with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Global Studies with a Nonprofit Administration concentration. With experience working for nonprofit organizations, Susannah has a passion for working to help those in need. She was born and raised in Southern Illinois and in her free time enjoys hiking, camping, and traveling as often as possible.

Kourtney was raised in Alabama but moved to New York City to attend New York University. She graduated in 2022 with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and has political experience working as a Field Organizer, Legislative Researcher, and Campaign Fundraiser. She has a deep passion for politics and learning about the different aspects of the field.

Kelly Zahour

Kelly graduated from Penn State University in 2022 with a Bachelor’s degree in Global and International Studies along with minors in Political Science and Psychology. With these degrees, she has discovered her interest in helping others and her fascination with politics. Kelly grew up outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and enjoys spending time with friends and family, and traveling when possible.
