National Political Reporter- The Washington Post
Maeve Reston is a national political reporter for The Washington Post covering the 2024 presidential race and the politics of the West. She joined The Post in 2023 after covering politics and five presidential campaigns at CNN, the Los Angeles Times, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Austin American-Statesman. She spent seven years at CNN, where she covered the 2016 and 2020 presidential races, as well as midterm elections, for both television and digital audiences. Her coverage focused in part on the politics of the western half of the United States, including through an original digital video series called “MaeveWest” that explored some of the unique challenges facing the region, including drought and immigration, and the shifting politics of Nevada, Arizona and Colorado. Before joining CNN in 2014, Maeve spent seven years as a reporter for the Los Angeles Times. In her first year at the Times, she wrote about policing, courts and wildfires in the Inland Empire before moving on to local, state and national politics, chronicling GOP Sen. John McCain’s comeback in the 2008 presidential contest and Republican Mitt Romney’s White House bid. Maeve also covered the 2004 presidential race from New Hampshire and Pennsylvania for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Her first reporting job was at the Austin American-Statesman, where she covered education and the Texas Legislature.
