TIPS FOR TRAVELING TO PUERTO RICO

Currency
The currency used in Puerto Rico is the U.S. dollar.

No Passport Needed for U.S. Travelers
Since Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States, American citizens do not require a passport to enter the Island. However, they must always travel with a valid ID.

Phone Plans
American travelers do not need to opt for international plans to make calls, however; if you’re in doubt, please check with your cellular provider about your coverage. In Puerto Rico, there is a 4GLTE network; 5G is available at some locations. In remote areas of the Island, cellular service and data coverage can be spotty, so always plan if you’re going into the mountains, for example.

LOCAL ATTRACTIONS

In Puerto Rico, the possibilities are nearly endless! Check out some of the most popular attractions here.

Attire – What to Wear

Conference attire is Resort Wear aka “Caribbean Chic.” Evening resort attire for men is dress slacks, dark jeans or linen pants, polo style shirts, button down shirts, shoes or sandals (feel free to leave your jackets/sports coats at home!). For women: dress slacks or dark jeans, skirts, blouse, shifts, sundress or maxi dress, wedges, and or dress sandals.  Our Pollie dinner, featuring traditional Puerto Rican food, will be set literally among sand outdoors, so be mindful when choosing your footwear. Off property, Puerto Ricans do like to dress up for dinner depending on the restaurant so check for dress codes when making reservations.

Daytime resort attire includes the same clothing suggestions as evening resort plus dress shorts can be worn as well. Nothing fancy, but generally no t-shirts, casual jeans, cutoffs or tank tops.

Keep in mind: the Hotel (indoors, air-conditioned) can be cool, so it would be appropriate to have a light sweater or wrap for your comfort. Layers recommended.

The Latest COVID-19 Protocol Updates in Puerto Rico

As of March 10, 2022 masks are no longer mandatory on the Island but are required on all public transportation, including all ferries operating to and from Vieques and Culebra.
There are no capacity limits for establishments on the Island. Patrons are not required to present proof of vaccination or a negative test result upon entry to businesses. However, as always, individual establishments reserve the right to implement their own health and safety requirements.
Guests do not need to present proof of vaccination or a negative test result upon arrival to hotels, paradores, guesthouses, and short-term rentals across the Island, however, individual properties reserve the right to implement any specific measures.  As of March 10, 2022, there are no masks required at the Caribe Hilton.

Testing Upon Return to Mainland

Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory and is excluded from the CDC requirement to provide a negative COVID-19 test result to return to the mainland United States. Travelers who test positive while on the Island must quarantine and cover their own medical expenses/possible extended stay. Quarantine mandates, recommendations, and entry requirements may vary by state.  For travel recommendations provided by the CDC, please see here.

Testing for Travel to Other Destinations

Quarantine mandates, recommendations, and entry requirements may vary by country.
